Birthday parties are supposed to be fun to plan, however, we often let ourselves get so stressed out by ensuring all of the minor details are perfect, that we forget what an enjoyment party planning can be. It’s certainly natural to want to do things right, especially when planning a surprise birthday party for a loved one. The first rule of avoiding becoming overwhelmed from the very beginning is to set a date and time you want your event to take place. Once set, you can begin to work out how the party will develop through the night and gain a clearer vision for your chosen theme.

If you are planning to have a form of entertainment at the party, be sure to secure it early to avoid the act being taken by someone else. Other things to order in the initial stages would be any props or bespoke items you want for the party, including invitations, leaving time for them to be delivered to you.

Party Planning Checklist: One Week to go!

At the one week stage, the most pressing parts of your party planning checklist should be ticked off. If you haven’t heard back from any invited guests at this stage, now would be the time to chase them up. Further to this, if you have games or activities planned that you haven’t previously tried, you may want to give them a go to become familiar with the rules, ensuring you can be the “hostess with the mostess” on the day of the party. Thirdly, confirm with anyone you have hired for the party, such as caterers and entertainment that they are still available for the date.
